Moscow Christmas tree messages remember lost students

Yellow roses dot the barrier around downtown’s tree

Roses and letters attached to the Christmas tree barricade in downtown Moscow | Daniel V. Ramirez | Argonaut

In Friendship Square stands a tall pine tree enduring the snow for another Christmas. Unlike past years, yellow roses are strung through the bars of the metal barricade around the tree with written notes as well.

While the University of Idaho signs remain a spot for the community to mourn the murders of four UI students, the Christmas tree has been a new place to honor the victims. This is as the community passes one month since the homicides.

Here are some of the anonymous messages that the community has written:

Daniel V. Ramirez | Argonaut

“Peace and Love to you… So sorry for your loss.”

“I can’t make the irrational rational. I am so sorry. You will always be in my heart.”

“It is devastating to lose some of our own. I hope the family and friends of Xana, Ethan, Kaylee and Madison find peace.”

“You will always be remembered with love… angels for your families now, peace.”

“My deepest thoughts and love are sent to everyone who knew the four souls lost way too soon from Earth.”

“#VandalStrong”

“Gone too soon. In loving memory of Ethan, Xana, Kaylee and Madison.”

“May God wrap you in his arms and welcome you into his kingdom.”

Daniel V. Ramirez | Argonaut

“The people of Moscow stand together for the youth lost… and found.”

“May the light and love of your lives continue to shine on others.”

“Our hearts are broken, love always from Moscow.”

“Vandal Strong. We will get through this together Moscow.”

    That note pictured seems ominous.
