After two meetings debating the impact of the social media app, Yik Yak, on campus, ASUI senators have unanimously voted to pass a resolution asking for the administration of UI to address the app and take action against it.

The goal of the legislation is to bring attention to Yik Yak and the negative impacts many within the senate believe it has had on campus. The senate hopes that through this resolution, the virtual world on campus will become less toxic and make the campus community feel safer.

“Yik Yak has posed a threat to campus several times this year and last year posed incredibly defamatory language towards people on campus that were trying to do good things and I think it’s our responsibility to address that,” Pro Tempore Martha Smith said.

The resolution passed the ASUI senate with an 8-0 vote in favor of passage.
