This weekend the Moscow community has the opportunity to enjoy a fun event with good company, shade, sunshine and plenty of cool water for dogs to play in before the onset of winter. This Sunday, September 11th, the 13th annual Howling at Hamilton fundraiser will take place at the Hamilton-Lowe Aquatics Center, located at 830 N. Mountain View Road in Moscow.

Hosted by the Humane Society of the Palouse, the event is a vital source of funding for the no-kill animal shelter, especially after they were forced to go without in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Lauren Green, Public Relations Manager for the shelter, said that people love the event enough to keep coming back. There were over 273 dogs last year alone.

“People are passionate about it and keep bringing their animals back each year,” Green said. “It’s a lot of fun even without a dog. The energy is unmatched.”

Gates will be open from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm, with lots of fun activities for dogs and owners alike. One highlight is the pool jumping contest at 5 pm, where plenty of pooches fly through the air and land with a splash, with prizes being presented by Idaho Central Credit Union after the contest

The cost is $15 per dog, and each dog must be accompanied by at least one person. All proceeds from the event will go towards the shelter, helping to buy food, medical care, cleaning supplies and more.

“Showing support can be as simple as sharing a post,” Green said. “It really keeps us going.”

Showing up to have fun for the event is a great way to support the humane society, and they are in need of volunteers year round for anyone interested in getting more involved.
