University of Idaho announces a $6 million budget surplus

The surplus was achieved despite poor investment performance

President Scott Green and vice president of finance and administration Brian Foisy announced a budget surplus of over $6 million during the 2022 fiscal year.

The surplus was announced this morning over an email to students, faculty and staff. The email states that while the university saved $25 million total, losses in investments balance out to the total $6 million surplus.

Green attributes the surplus to the Vandal Hybrid Budget Model, which has allowed this money to roll over into the next year’s funds.

These numbers are unaudited, but they are not expected to change in any significant way, according to Green.
