Faculty Senate discussed accreditation visit and scholarship funds raised from Vandal Giving Day

Vandal Giving Day at University of Idaho is an annual day of donations raised by alumni. The time of giving was 1,889 minutes, in honor of the founding date of the university, 1889. UI Provost Torrey Lawrence said each year the donations set new records, including this year.

“I think we’ll get some final details and exact numbers later after all the dust settles with that, but that was a huge effort by our advancement teams and I know some people on this call even had a pretty big role with the social media aspects,” Lawrence said.

The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities conducted an accreditation visit at UI last week. Lawrence said the visit was positive, but their official report won’t be given until early this summer.

“Some commendation areas were expecting to hear about are commitment and passion from our people for the university,” Lawrence said.

Lawrence said the NWCCU is looking at factors for student achievement in different ways.

“Looking at policies around workload and staffing levels, those were an area that they clearly heard from people could use attention and what’s good to me is these aren’t huge surprises,” Lawrence said. “These are things that we know are challenges and things that we already, in many cases are working on.”

It will be interesting to read the NWCCU's final report. Excellent coverage of the Faculty Senate, as always!
