ASUI finalized ballots for election and voted in favor of changes to the Panhellenic Council budget.

After being introduced in the previous week, ASUI voted to pass legislation that will solidify the candidates for the spring 2022 elections.

The ASUI president and vice president tickets are as follows:

  • Katie Hettinga and Olivia Niemi
  • Tanner McClain and Madison Fitzgerald

The elections will also see six candidates running for six open ASUI senate positions:

  • Blake Schoo
  • Bre Torres
  • Daniela Aguilar
  • Hector Guerrero
  • Jared Sherman
  • Katlyn Rode

Elections will begin on April 11 and end on April 13 at 5 p.m. Links for voting will be available through University of Idaho students’ Vandal mail accounts once voting opens on April 11.

Panhellenic Vice President of Operations Mia Ruby has proposed a new budget for the council that would allow for greater spending capacity and increases in Panhellenic officer stipends. The current stipend for council leadership equates to about $2 per hour when including required hours as well as hours spent through various events, meetings and other responsibilities on campus.

“I’m very grateful that ASUI has expressed interest and support in some recent bylaw, financial changes we’re doing right now at Panhellenic,” Panhellenic Council President Sydney Sterling said. “These changes will benefit the community and the councilwomen themselves.”

The restructured budget would allow for the council leadership to be paid the equivalent of about $10 per hour through quarterly stipends.

Under the proposed budget model, instead of each chapter paying a $500 assessment fee, a flat fee of $40 in the fall and $35 in the spring would be charged with no assessment fees, a model that would shift closer to the structure of the IFC fraternities, Sen. Martha Smith said.

Smith added that she hopes the passage of the resolution will assist in addressing the current pay gap between executives of the IFC Fraternities and Panhellenic Sororities.

“As a Panhellenic woman, I’m more than willing to pay an extra $10 a semester to accomplish this goal,” Smith said.
