University of Idaho to give away free KN95 masks

Beginning today, students can get free masks at campus locations with the mask mandate continuing

In an email from University of Idaho President Scott Green and Provost and Executive Vice President Torrey Lawrence, announced that free KN95 masks will be available at specific locations on campus as the mask mandate continues.

KN95 masks will be available starting today, while supplies last, at UI’s campus.

Here is a list of where they will be available:

  • Department of Student Involvement Office, Front Desk
  • ISUB, Information Desk
  • Pitman, Information Desk
  • LLC, Help Desk
  • Student Recreation Center, Well Space
  • VandalStore

Rapid testing kits are also available from noon to 2 p.m. Monday to Friday at the Student Recreation Center. A valid Vandal Card is required to receive a testing kit

Positivity rates in Latah County are at 39.5%, higher than other counties in Idaho. Bonneville County’s positivity rate is 29.5%, Ada County is at 23% and Nez Perce County at 21.5%. Green stated that they will reconsider UI’s COVID-19 protocols in the coming weeks.

“If we continue to see a decline, we hope to move into an individually led COVID-19 response where those who choose to wear masks are encouraged to do so. But we aren’t quite there,” Green said.

For now, the current mask mandate will continue on the Moscow campus.
