news update

On Oct. 20, Judge John Judge sentenced Former University of Idaho Associate Director of Alumni Engagement Tim Helmke to 14 days jail time and 100 hours of community service for the misuse of public funds, to which he pled guilty last August. Helmke is also required to pay $2,455.17 in court fees.

Helmke originally faced three felony charges after allegedly spending over $2,700 in unauthorized purchases on a university card. He allegedly submitted false receipts in 2019 and 2020.

Judge signed a verdict of withheld judgement on Oct. 26. which allows Helmke to have the charges retroactively dismissed upon successful completion of the court ordered sentence. In Idaho, each individual only gets one withheld judgement in their lifetime.

Tim Helmke was also accused of two counts of felony forgery, in relation to the fund misuse, that were dismissed by the order of the prosecutor on Oct. 10.
