Mask mandate continues on UI’s campus following Homecoming weekend

The policy will be reviewed once again by Nov. 1

Breaking News Graphic

After reviewing COVID-19 policies once again, University of Idaho continues with it’s mask mandate, as stated in an email by President Scott Green and Provost and Executive Vice President Torrey Lawrence.

“While we are pleased to be able to gather for events, we also know the pandemic continues to deeply impact our healthcare system,” the email stated. “We are beginning to see declining numbers nationally, but that trend has not yet become a reality for our community and healthcare system.”

Last week, Gritman Medical Center’s patient care unit reached capacity with its greatest number of COVID-19 positive patients ever admitted.

According to the university email, five students were reported COVID-19 positive last week with one isolating on campus in Targhee Hall.

Green and Lawrence clarified that the mask mandate also applies to university offices, buildings owned by other entities and common areas. The policy will be reviewed again in three weeks with an update by Nov. 1.
