Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 booster shots will soon be available for certain populations according to a press release from Public Health – Idaho North Central District. The Pfizer-BioNTech booster shot is only applicable to those who previously received Pfizer-BioNTech.

Following recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the local health district will be making booster shots available for those who received their second shot of Pfizer-BioNTech at least six months ago.

Those eligible must also fall into one of the following categories: individuals 65 or older, long-term care facility residents, individuals 50-64 with underlying medical conditions, some individuals 18-49 with underlying medical conditions evaluated on a case-by-case basis and individuals 18-64 at an increased risk due to work, such as teachers and healthcare workers.

According to the CDC, evidence shows the efficacy of the vaccine may decrease over time, also becoming less effective against the Delta variant. The booster shot has been shown to improve one’s immune response, better protecting against all variants of COVID-19.

PH-INCD will be holding weekly Thursday booster clinics at the Lewiston Public Health building, 215 10th St. beginning next week.

On Sept. 30, walk-ins will be accepted from 9-11 a.m. Afternoon appointments are available through sign-up online.

Patients must have their vaccine cards as proof of previous vaccinations.

At this time, there are no recommendations for Moderna or Johnson & Johnson booster shots
