The biggest night for fashion finally returned to Fifth Avenue as celebrities paraded down the Met Gala’s red carpet for the first time in the past two years.

Though the crowd this year was a little smaller due to the pandemic, the Met Gala returned Monday evening along with its extravagantly dressed A-List guests. Many famous faces of pop culture offered their take on the theme of  “American Independence” in their debut in this year’s show. Here are some of the most memorable red carpet moments from this year’s Met Gala.

#1: Iman

Supermodel Iman turned heads at this year’s met gala, with her bold look created by designer Harrison Reed. It was hard to top this look, as Iman was quite literally outshining the others, dressed in a gold leaf gown and an enormous statement headpiece with feathers and highlights of gold. This extravagant look made quite the statement, going down in Met Gala history for one of the more elaborate pieces.

#2: J Lo

We all knew that Jennifer Lopez would show up in style at this year’s Met Gala, but her outfit this year put a western twist on the brown dress designed by Ralph Lauren. The dress featured a plunging neckline with a high leg slit, draped across her shoulders was a feather bolero jacket accessorized with a leather holster belt, wide-brimmed hat, and big silver statement jewelry pieces. Not only did J Lo look rodeo ready, but also glamorous in her red carpet attire.

#3: Billie Eilish

This year at the Met Gala, music artist Billie Eilish, strayed away from her typical style of oversized and printed pieces and incorporated something a little more feminine. Eilish was dressed in an elegant nude tulle gown created by Oscar de la Renta. Another notable aspect of Ms. Eilish’s red carpet look was her rationale behind this look. As a vegan and animal rights activist, Ms. Eilish agreed to represent Oscar de la Renta’s piece at the Met Gala under the condition that they halt the production and sale of pieces with animal fur. It’s safe to say that Billie Eilish made a statement on the runway this year in more than one way.

#4: Lil Nas X

Despite the memes circulating on Twitter comparing Lil Nas-X to the “Star Wars” character, C-3p0, Lil Nas X’s gold suit of armor gained quite the publicity. His red carpet outfit resembled Lady Gaga’s 2019 debut on the red carpet and revealed three different outfit changes. The three outfits that Nas took on the runway were said to have held significance to him. Relating the change of outfits to his journey through his career as he gained publicity and “Broke out of his shell,” was seen as he transitioned from his golden armor to a captivating beaded bodysuit.

#5: Hunter Schafer

Hunter Schafer gave us all an outfit to remember as she crossed the red carpet sporting a futuristic look reminiscent of her show Euphoria. The Prada-designed look consisted of a two-piece silver embellished skirt set, accessorized with a silver headpiece. Schafer mesmerized the audience, with a play on sci-fi horror wearing eerie white contacts. This experimental look pushed the limits of fashion and is one of the most memorable out of all the A-List guests.
