OPINION: Caffeinated Clif Bars: A College Students Secret Weapon

As a graduating senior this year, I feel indebted to share a couple of my tips and tricks to incoming freshmen. First of all, load up on your classes your first two years. Senior year will be filled with burnout and it’ll feel better to have your electives done ahead of time. Secondly, get involved. Seriously, it’s way too easy in college to get trapped in an isolation bubble. This is the last time most of you will be in an environment with so many people your age, take advantage of it.

For the third and last piece of advice? Well, I saved the best for last. College is where most students begin their caffeine addiction. I, for the most part, dislike the taste of coffee. It’s bitter, overwhelming, and gives me a headache. This mindset has definitely saved me money throughout the years, but while taking heavy loads of courses, I knew something had to change. I needed to find a different fix. A new solution.

Who came to my rescue? None other than the savior that is known formally as Caffeinated Clif Bars. Clif Bars on their own are a godsend. They’re quick, tasty, and full of carbohydrates- an easy meal on the go if you’re running late to class. Caffeinated Clif bars possess the same ingredients and great taste- but with an added shot of espresso.

For me, a Caffeinated Clif bar gives me energy and caffeine for the day, as well as a morning snack. Coffee, especially brewed on campus, is expensive, making multiple students meal swap coffee instead of breakfast. This leads to dizziness, headaches, and the feeling of being overwhelmed. Combining both food and coffee in a quick, ready to go function provides students with a pleasant caffeine kick, making them motivated, not dizzy.

Not only are they easily accessible, but they’re relatively cheap. Six bars sold in a pack usually run no more than eight dollars. Compared to a single Starbucks drink that costs five dollars, it’s the equivalent of getting six coffees for the price of one and a half.

Unfortunately, the fad is taking on a little bit more than I would like at Moscow’s local Walmart. I’ve scoured the aisles three times now, only to find them sold out at every turn. I’m beginning to become discouraged, but nothing will stop me from my quest to find the key that is my caffeine fix for the semester. No, this is not an advertisement for Clif Bars, I am unfortunately, not being sponsored. What this is, however, is a tip from an-almost-college has-been, to help out other students in need. Oh, and also a callout post to whoever’s buying out the Clif Bars at Moscow Walmart in bulk.
