Hawaii outshot Idaho, but couldn’t land the shots

University of Idaho women’s soccer (4-1) defeated University of Hawaii at Manoa (0-4-1) Wednesday night, 3-2. The Vandals were the first and last to score of the game, making their wins on home turf two-for-two.

Not even having gone over 2-0 in a season since 2007, this is the Vandals’ best start to a season since 1999, where they had a record of 4-0-1.

Vandal sophomore forward Jadyn Hanks was first to score Wednesday night, assisted by senior midfielder Maddie Haas just a few minutes into the game.

The Rainbow Wahine tied it up shortly after, with a goal from sophomore forward Kelci Sumida off a corner kick from junior midfielder Morgan Meza.

Vandal Maddy Lasher then scored a goal, making this her third game in a row to score, throwing the Vandals back in the lead and carrying them to halftime.

The ‘Bows tied the scores again after half with a goal from freshman forward Krista Peterson, the first of her career for Hawaii.

Vandals made the final goal of the game with 20 minutes left in the second half, from sophomore midfielder Margo Schoesler.

The ‘Bows managed to outshoot the Vandals 12-8, and racked up more corner kicks, 6-2, but never were able to take the lead from the Vandals after they tied the scores.

The next game for the Vandals will be against the Nevada Wolf Pack (1-3) on Sept. 12 in Reno, Nevada.
