During Vandals’ home opener on Friday night, an uneventful first half in the Kibbie Dome left both Idaho (3-1-0) and CSU Bakersfield (0-3-1) scoreless. However, after halftime, Idaho would start scoring and go on to win, 4-1, against Bakersfield.

“It was a halftime talk,” Jeremy Clevenger, the head coach for women’s soccer, stated in a press release. “We just want to be a little more aggressive. I thought we had the majority of the control of the play and the ball in the first half. We just didn’t get to put the ball in the back of the net.”

At 55 minutes into the game, Vandals’ sophomore forward Maddy Lasher was the first to score in the game.

Then from a free kick by graduate student midfielder Taylor Brust, junior defender Julia Bailey scored a second goal for the Vandals.

The Roadrunners sophomore forward Darian Tatum made the only successful goal for her team during Friday night’s game.

Then a shot made by Vandal freshman midfielder/forward Leiden Huber bounced off the goal post, and Bailey would score one more time for the Vandals.

The final goal of Friday’s game was a penalty kick from Huber after sophomore midfielder Hannah Alfaro was taken down in the box.

Idaho, in total, made 14 attempts on the goal, while Bakersfield made eight.

“The halftime talk was let’s create more chances, be more aggressive, take more shots, and we did that, and I’m really proud of them,” Clevenger stated in the press release.

Vandal soccer will be back on Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 6 p.m. against University of Hawaii.
