Screen on the Green has been a University of Idaho tradition for the last few years, bridging the gap between campus and the Moscow community. This year, the UI Department of Student Involvement has added a drive-in feature, as well as continuing the traditional Screen on the Green event.

“This year, we were actually reached out to by the president’s office about doing drive-in movies as well,” Herman Roberts, UI summer involvement specialist, said. “We just want to make sure we encompass both formats, so people who prefer a drive-in movie can have that, and people who enjoy Screen on the Green can also attend that way. I think it provides a little more diversity and format so people can decide how they want to enjoy a movie.”

Both setups are free outdoor movie showings, open to anyone, with showings until Aug. 21. They alternate each week, starting at 9:00 p.m. almost every Friday.

With the Moscow Drive-In, gates open at 8:00 p.m. Drive-in attendees are asked to tune their radio to 87.9 FM to listen to the movie.

Those attending Screen on the Green are encouraged to bring camping chairs or blankets. Attendees are free to bring their own snacks to either event, but there will be concessions for sale at the drive-in, and complementary popcorn at Screen on the Green.

People of all ages throughout the community are encouraged to attend the movie screenings as a way to enjoy the summer and get involved with their community again.

“I think amidst the pandemic that we’ve recently started to come out of and summer getting into full swing, it’s hard to find time to relax,” Roberts said. “We want to make sure we’re providing a complimentary movie night to the people within the Moscow community and the Vandal students that are still attending college.”
