A property tax bill introduced by Idaho House of Representative member Mike Moyle, a Republican from Star, will be sent to the Gov. Brad Little to be signed. HB389 passed May 4 through the House, 48-20, and was then approved by the Senate the following day, 19-16.
Moyle proposed HB389 as an opportunity for tax relief and would curb the potential for larger budgets in local taxing districts. Although some representatives in growing districts didn’t back the bill.
One section of the bill will benefit veterans by decreasing their property taxes if they qualify for the special veteran’s property tax relief.
By 2022, property owners who pay over $250,000 would receive a substantial tax relief. HB389 further subsidizes taxpayers whose assets are higher.
The progression of the bill through the House to the Senate came after a long discussion in the House. HB389 was introduced to be read close to the end of the legislative session.

This wont help us one bit. No military service. We are now 70, and our home in Alaska where we reside in summer is 17+x LESS than our home in Idaho. That. Is a lot. This bill would mean much more if it included a senior benefit, a reduction for the retired on permanently fixed pensions, if they have one at all.
