OPINION: The “super straight” movement and its ties to neo-Nazis

A new movement sparked online has the only goal of being arrogant

A recent movement to redefine classifications of being straight is nothing more than a hateful attempt at being edgy.

Over the past week, social media sites saw a significant rise of the term “super straight,” a so-called distinction of heterosexuality that strictly limits a person’s attraction to people assigned male or female at birth. In other words, purposefully excluding transgender people.

The original video was posted on Feb. 21, 2021, by TikTok user kyleroyce and amassed over two million likes before it was deleted and reuploaded to youtube. Subsequent twitter pages, flag designs, color choices and further explanations followed suit.

“I’ve made a new sexuality, straight men get called transphobic because I wouldn’t date a trans woman,” kyleroyce said, “Now, I’m super straight. I only date the opposite gender, women, that are born women. So, you can’t say I’m transphobic now because that is just my sexuality.”

The forum site 4chan quickly took hold of the term with a group of neo-Nazis utilizing the ideology to “‘drive a wedge’ in the LGBTQ+ community,” according to Insider.

The group created Nazi imagery associated with the term “super straight” by brandishing the Nazi paramilitary group Schutzstaffel’s “SS” logo with black and orange colors.

Now here we are. A group of people self-righteous and hateful enough to create a pseudo-sexuality managed to blossom into a vaguely tied neo-Nazi anti-LGBTQ+ campaign.

In all reality, even before its neo-Nazi affiliation, the movement was already rooted in LGBTQ+ hatred.

The movement’s only goal is to make a mockery. Baselessly calling “super straight” a sexuality dismisses the mental struggle of sexual frustration and the journey it takes to realize one’s sexual identity. Blatantly, it’s inconsiderate at best and cruel at worst.

Those who have abided by the new term have done so to prove a point. A moot point, at that. However, with the aim of redefining transphobia, they became transphobic. To specifically exclude transgender people from attraction purely because they are transgender is no more or less transphobic than saying you’d never date a trans person just because they’re trans.

The specific need to voice a disapproval of trans people perpetuates an un-needed hatred. This hatred has no place on a campus that is meant to promote inclusivity.

Those who identify by the term, jokingly or not, only give us greater insight into their arrogance. There are far more productive, effective and considerate ways to have a sexual preference. Mocking the validity of being transgender and other sexualities by claiming “super straight” as a new sexuality only mobilizes a fleet of hate-seeking heathens.

It is abundantly clear that individuals perpetuating this movement are doing so maliciously and ignorantly. In their effort to “prove a point,” they’ve only made their lack of compassion and understanding apparent. Even before its neo-Nazi ties, the term is only fueled by scorn.

I urge those who have associated or supported the term, even with complacency, to take a deeper look into what it means and how it affects the students around them. What’s the point of this all if we can’t be compassionate towards one another? I don’t know otherwise.

There's no wrong opinion, but there are incredibly stupid ones, like this

Preferences can't be bigoted. Remove your article, it's hate speech :)

    Bunch of snowflakes ⚫️

Ben Shapiro knows the truth to this.

This is asinine. Something really bizarre has happened the past couple years. People are allowed to be attracted to anyone they like. End of story. That's it. It's not transphobic to not be attracted to transgender people. That's just asinine. Who are these egg heads who come up with this? So gay people are bigoted against the opposite gender then, correct? If that's how you're twisting this in your head? You can't have your cake and eat it too. You should be ashamed and all this does is hurt your cause. Disgusting

Theres a difference between having a genital preference then actually not accepting someones peonouns/gender. educate yourself.

      1. allison

The preferences has nothing to do with pronouns. Educate yourself.

  6. Super Straight

Super straight let it be just like the 70 other genders they made up.

  7. Justin

Sounds like something a superphobe would say. You don't get to decide other people's sexuality.

    1. Super straight

They can’t just let us be. If we only like the biological opposite gender (Male-Female) that’s all we like. I’m not dating a Trans because I’m not gay.

Nice. Removing comments because they're calling out the rape-culture of this piece. This content empowers rapists and demonizes victims. UI should be ashamed.

This made me laugh. That you felt the need to comment this. With all due respect are you actually capable of reading? I do not mean this to come off rude but I do not see how you assumed that the writer of this opinion was a rapist. Like talk about a curveball out of left field. I would like to refer you to this website https://www.uidaho.edu/current-students/student-involvement/clubs so that you can find some more activities at the University of Idaho to participate in and better yourself. I wish you the best and hope that you can find an organization that betters the community versus your lack of consideration towards others. I understand that you may think commenting hateful things on an opinion article is a great use of your time, but you should really try to get outside and better the community instead of letting your life accumulate to this. Lastly, I believe you should touch up on your critical thinking and article analysis, as there was no way you could conclude the author was a rapist. Have a great day!!

The previous comment was removed due to violating our commenting policies and libel guidelines by attempting to cause harm to someone with accusations and claims with no proven information behind them. The Argonaut does not condone or tolerate rape-culture or sexual assault.

The article is hate speech. You will remove it.

How is your reporter more informed than, say, Snopes, whom themselves can't confirm the alleged links? https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/super-straight-nazis-4chan/ What actually happened was 4chan noticed the movement was trending, and discussed how they could co-opt the movement. The only people who took the bait were "journalists" aka social media aggregators, like the writer of this piece. There is no link to Nazis and the writer is only using this tired trope because they have no capacity to argue against any of the narratives put forth by the Super Straights, which include (in part): There are some in the LGBT community and their allies who do apply pressure to people who don't date or sleep with Trans-men/Trans-women. That is called coercive rape (source: womenshealth.gov), in which despite being told that they do not consent, there is an effort after the fact to reverse that consent by applying social/emotional pressure or shame. There are many videos on TikTok and posts on Reddit that discuss stealthing, in which Trans people have sex with unwitting partners that are not informed of their biological sex. They claim this is for their own protection. This is illegal, and is rape by deception, according to precedent set by R v McNally (2013) It's not only Super Straight, there are now Super Lesbians/Super Gays/Super Bis, which are really just people, who are part of the LGBT community, who finally feel like they have mainstream support to speak out about the abuse they've been receiving for years from Trans-lesbians/Trans-gay men. Super straight was a meme intended to be an "UNO Reverse Card" of sorts, in which the Woke lexicon was weaponized against the Woke itself. However, jokes about Super Straights being oppressed became reality when those who didn't approve of the meme got it banned from the entire TikTok platform and eventually Reddit. In fact, they had the audacity to go out of their way to harass GoFundMe into cancelling a fundraiser that raised over $7,000 for the Vancouver Rape Relief, a recently vandalized shelter that helps women (incl. Trans-women & some 72% of women that are indigenous). The fact that they were upset by memes made them feel completely justified in denying actual sexual assault services to women who needed them. This is when it went from memo to movement. All of the above is entirely accurate and the fact that the media chooses to ignore these valid issues and jumps on these tired "transphobia" and "Nazi" tropes just shows they're in it to score points with the Woke crowd, above author included.

This is what eventually happens when certain groups continue to push their agenda onto others who don't subscribe to their agendas. The Super Straight movement has taken the world by storm! And it is a valid movement that will continue to grow. We should be working on creating a parade for the Super Straight community!

Mocking the validity of transgenderism and other sexualities That's bullshit. They ain't mocking nor denying anything. Just affirming an exclusive preference for cisgender people of the opposite sex.
