Moscow High School cancels two boys’ basketball games for causes “under investigation”

The games have not yet been rescheduled

The Moscow High School boys’ basketball team canceled their Tuesday match against Coeur d’Alene High School, according to the Vikings’ athletics website. This is the second match the Bears have canceled in the last four days.

A tweet from Jason Elliot of the Coeur d’Alene Press stated Tuesday’s game was “postponed due to COVID-19 outbreak within the Bears program,” and that no rescheduled date was announced.

Moscow High School Athletic Director Lance Abendroth confirmed the game had been canceled but declined to comment on the cause of the cancellation. The cause of the cancellation is still under investigation, Abendroth said.

The first canceled match was against Sandpoint High School on Jan. 30. Sandpoint High School Athletics stated in a tweet on Jan. 29, they are working to reschedule the game.

Protocols from Moscow High School state their indoor facilities have a capacity of approximately 250 people. Seating will be marked and every other row will be vacant, according to the school.

For outdoor facilities, the protocols state masks and social distancing are required for all spectators.

Moscow boys’ basketball Head Coach Josh Uhrig could not be reached for comment.

Best wishes and your journalism career. My father and grandfather were both journalists, and my dad was a professor of Journalism at the University of Arizona. You seem to have a talent that I have not often seen in The Argonaut, and if I can encourage you or help you in your he's writing and Reporting career in any way, please let me know. I'm in Moscow most of the time and always looking to encourage young print journalists. Keep following this one -- there's a story there!
