Resolution for remembering Ruth Bader Ginsburg 

Senate resolution F20-R02 was proposed to honor Ruth Bader Ginsburg after her passing. The resolution opposes the U.S. Senate electing a new justice before the conclusion of the 2020 presidential election. 

There were no questions or discussion regarding the resolution. 

Resolution urging Idaho Senators James Risch and Mike Crapo to postpone confirmation of new justice

Senate resolution F20-R03 proposed ASUI urge Idaho Senators James Risch and Mike Crapo to oppose a vote to confirm a new justice prior to the conclusion of the 2020 presidential election. 

The bill wishes for Risch and Crapo “to take a stand against this absurd, divisive and hypocritical power play” and urges them “…to hold (their) colleagues accountable for their prior actions and words.” 

There will be a discussion for the resolution next week. 

Potential school holiday for Election Day

ASUI President Lauren Carlsen has been pushing for classes to be canceled on Election Day. 

The issue has been discussed with Faculty Senate and the ASUI cabinet extensively. The state of the bill was not mentioned, but senators were urged to participate in working on the project as it is a “huge undertaking.”

Bill asking for funding for the clothing bank in the works 

Senator Ezmy Perez met with Academic Advisor and Peer Leader Liaison  Gayle Gleason to discuss the current state of the clothing bank, which needs new racks and other repairs. 

Perez plans to bring a bill to the floor within the next week or two proposing more funding for the bank. 

Men’s mental health project for “Movember”

Senator Mark Currier started a project to focus on men’s mental health with Senator Kallyn Mai for the month of November. The month is also called “Movember” as a combination of “men’s mental health” and “November.” 

The senators are looking for sponsors to provide self-care products to hand out on Nov. 19, International Men’s Day. 

Making campus more Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible

Senator Frazier began talks to make campus more ADA accessible. She’s writing a bill focusing on fraternity and sorority life houses becoming ADA accessible within the next five years. 

Bringing free feminine hygiene products to campus 

Senator Dylanie Frazier continued work on her bill for implementing free feminine hygiene products around campus. There is no clear timeline for the project. 

ASUI Senate meets at 7 p.m. Wednesdays in the ISUB or over Zoom.
