Police Logs: fireworks violations and several stray animals found

Friday, July 3

2:07 a.m. Traffic Violation: A caller reported a vehicle drove by Taylor Avenue going very fast at least four times. The reporting party could only hear the vehicle, not see it, and said this had been happening for the past 10 minutes. An officer contacted the driver and a report was taken.

1:12 p.m. Stray Animals: A dog was found on S Almon and W Sixth Streets. An officer responded but was unable to locate the dog. No report was taken.

2:48 p.m. Illegal Burning: A caller saw someone burning things in their yard on N Lilly Street. At first, the caller thought it was a barbecue, but then noticed a lot of smoke. They could not tell how large the fire is but did not describe it as threatening. Fire and law responded. There was no fire emergency.

5:00 p.m. Suspicious Person/Circumstance: A caller reported a man was walking down the street near Gritman Hospital hitting things with a metal pole. Officers responded and no report was taken.

7:20 p.m. Other Law Enforcement Calls: A large crowd of 30-40 people was reported outside Bucers. The caller did not see them wearing masks. Officers responded and no report was taken.

8:05 p.m. Other Law Enforcement Calls: A caller drove by Bucers and saw about 20 people outside not social distancing or wearing masks.

9:03 p.m. Malicious Mischief: A reporting party stated someone damaged garden decorations, rocks and possibly the door frame to her apartment on Creekside Lane. An officer responded and no report was taken.

11:43 p.m. Suspicious Person/Circumstance: A caller reported someone was found in the dumpster behind Joanns on the back side of the Palouse Empire Mall. Officers responded and no report was taken.

Saturday, July 4

2:18 a.m. Malicious Mischief: A woman reported all her window screens on S Main Street appeared to be bent or knocked out. She believes her soon-to-be ex-husband damaged them. Officers responded and no report was taken.

7:06 a.m. Theft Other: A Best Western employee reported a patron had two specialized bikes stolen. An officer responded and a report was taken.

8:16 a.m. Theft of Automobile: A utility trailer was stolen from N Jefferson Street overnight, although there are no suspects. An officer responded and a report was taken.

9:19 a.m. Theft of Motorcycle: A caller thinks his motorcycle was stolen. It was last seen at 10 p.m. the previous night on White Avenue. There is no second set of keys and nothing on the tow log. A report was taken.

9:40 a.m. Vehicle Prowl: A reporting party last saw their vehicle around 10 p.m. the previous night and only noticed something was wrong around 6 a.m. that morning. Some things, including a gas can and some shovels, were stolen from the truck bed. The reporting party did not know who did it. An officer advised and a report was taken.

1:54 p.m. Stray Animals: A man found a chocolate lab and was holding it on Roosevelt Street, but couldn’t take it to the Humane Society. An officer responded and took the dog to the Humane Society. No report was taken.

3:56 p.m. Stray Animals: A reporting party found an English sheepdog on E Seventh Street. An officer transported the dog to the Humane Society. No report was taken.

3:55 p.m. Theft Other: Items were taken from a storage unit on W A Street within the past few days. An officer advised and a report was taken.

9:41 p.m. Fireworks Complaint: A caller said people hit his house on Mallard Court with fireworks and is now getting shrapnel on his house from fireworks being shot over it. An officer advised and no report was taken.

11:00 p.m. Fireworks Complaint: A group of people were reportedly shooting fireworks at cars on W A Street. Officers responded and no report was taken.

11:46 p.m. Fire: A fire was found in a dumpster on W A Street. The reporting party noticed it was smoking and saw flames. Law and fire responded. No report was taken.

Sunday, July 5

3:03 a.m. Stray Animals: A dog seemed lost near WinCo. The reporting party said it was walking on the University of Idaho campus walkway and was heading East from the Living Learning Communities. An officer responded and no report was taken.

10:34 a.m. Stray Animals: Two dogs, a black pitt and a blonde medium-sized possible lab mix, were seen running around a trailer court on N Polk Street. An officer responded and no report was taken.

11:11 a.m. Civil Calls: A man showed up to a service at Christ Church and stated he wanted to speak to the congregation but is refusing to speak to anyone. Officers responded and no report was taken.

12:54 p.m. Theft Other: A caller reported his bike was stolen from Hawthorne Drive sometime within the last few weeks. Someone cut the lock off and took the bike. An officer responded and no report was taken.

2:49 p.m. Utility Problem: Water was running down E Sixth Street from a city water box on the reporting party’s property. An officer responded and no report was taken.

5:25 p.m. Utility Problem: Water was found flowing down Peterson Drive near W A Street. No report was taken.

7:24 p.m. Stray Animals: A reddish brown adult hunting dog showed up to the reporting party’s house on E Seventh Street. The dog had an orange and gray muzzle and looked like a pointer. No report was taken.

7:40 p.m. Suspicious Person/Circumstance: A reporting party saw people loading a car onto a truck with a trailer. There was lots of swearing and the reporting party did not know if the car belonged to those loading it. Officers responded and no report was taken.

9:09 p.m. Stray Animals: An older female chihuahua was found on N Almon Street. She was white with tan spots and had no collar. The reporting party had her in custody. The caller said they could meet the police at the Humane Society.
