Protest to remove Gov. Brad Little and a Lewiston City Council member to take place today

Protesters oppose suggestion to give cities more authority over firearms during protests

Breaking News Graphic

Gun rights advocates are set to host another protest, this time in front of Lewiston City Library, where demonstrators will call for the removal of Councilor Bob Blakey of the Lewiston City Council.

According to the Recall Brad Little & Bob Blakey Facebook page, the event is scheduled to begin at city hall at 5:30 p.m. and continue at the library at 6 p.m.

30 people are listed as “going” on the page and 108 people are listed as “interested.”

Led by Heather Rogers, the protesters previously organized Protect LC Valley, which took place the same day as a nearby Black Lives Matter protest.

“We will be meeting and protesting how our city counselor Bob Blakey wishes to infringe upon our 2A RIGHTS,” the event page said. “Bob Blakey needs to be removed from city council. Governor Brad Little needs to step down or be recalled!”

According to the Lewiston Tribune, these advocates were a hot topic at the city council meeting following the Protect LC Valley and LC Valley Black Lives Matter events. Several citizens said they were intimidated by the demonstrators, who carried a variety of weapons through downtown Lewiston.

Blakey suggested the council pass a resolution asking state legislators to enable cities to have more authority over firearms during protests.
