The Pitman Center, formerly known as the Student Union Building, received a new space for computers in the basement. Along with 10 IBM personal computers, typewriters were also available to students.  

This space became available when the organizations using it moved to the third floor. Those organizations were The Argonaut, The Gem of the Mountains, ASUI Reprographics and Phozone.

In 1986, students paid $520 in fees per semester after a “controversial” $15 fee increase. The original fee increase was going to be $50, but the Idaho State Board of Education had a $15 fee increase cap at the time. The article is accompanied by a chart demonstrating how fees had increased in the 10 years previous.  

The funds from the increase were given to the Athletic Department, the Student Union Building (The Pitman Center) and Intramural sports. The Athletic Department received $9.50, the SUB received $4.50 and Intramurals received $1 per semester. The ASUI president at the time criticized this fee increase.

The Prichard Art Gallery is a staple in downtown Moscow. This article explains an exhibit being shown at the time. This year, the Prichard reopened June 13 with the exhibit “Four Old Guys Walk into a Gallery.” Read our coverage about the post-stay-home order opening of the Prichard here.

Moscow celebrated Juneteenth with various events across town. The article stated, “Celebrating the holiday helps the UI community ‘to encourage and promote diverse perspectives and the idea of human rights. It allows us to recognize the importance of family values,’ said Juandalynn Taylor,” spokesperson for the Office of Diversity and Human Rights at the time.

This photo from former Argonaut staff member Theresa Palmgren pictures students in an athletic challenge in the Physical Education Building. The caption reads: “TeamCowabunga A participate in land skies, one of the competitions in the Extreme Challenge by the Physical Education Building Tuesday. The outdoor program organized the Extreme Challenge to help build teamwork, trust and communication for the students who are participating in Idaho 4-H Teen Conference this week.”
