Looking back to see what was going on in past years is a great way to gain insight into what the world used to be like. The UI Idaho Library has a website that includes PDFs of printed issues of The Argonaut. Anyone can look through these at any time.

This is 1904’s commencement edition of The Argonaut. It highlights the progress the university made that year, including the building of a new gymnasium, and the achievements of the graduating class. The issue lists all graduates, including a photo and biography of each.

June 7, 1911

“The commencement season never passes without the crossing of bats between the faculty and the highest college class,” this article stated.  

The annual senior class and faculty baseball game was postponed in 1911. The article includes the possible line-up and mentions four Varsity baseball members on the senior team. This is no longer a tradition at UI.  

June 10, 1985

Registration can be a stressful time for any college student. Today, we register based off the number of credits each student has completed. In 1985, students registered alphabetically, based off their last names.

For those who have been in Moscow for a little while, some may remember the Slurp-N-Burp Tavern on Robinson Park Road. This little ad could bring back memories for those who went there when the business was open.

A new business at the time, The Vox, was highlighted in this article. According to the article, the store offered a “laid back atmosphere” and a place for musicians to play. Moscow offers a wide variety of music downtown and it seems The Vox offered a similar atmosphere as businesses with live music do now.
