Whipped coffe, a new way to enjoy your latte

Emily Pearce | Argonaut

TikTok whipped coffee.

Many of us have seen this drink on TikTok, Instagram or have watched videos of people trying this trend. The drink, first known as Dalgona coffee, has taken over the internet. Even infleuncers like Jenna Marbles and Julian Solomita have tried to recreate the drink. Similar to an iced latte, whipped coffee has a smooth texture but with a fun twist on top.

Fun fact, according to Insider, this drink originated from Phenti Hui coffee that gained traction in South Korea. Phenti Hui is a similar drink that translates to beaten coffee, the milk is poured on top of the whipped coffee rather than spooned on top.

What you’ll need:

  • Instant coffee
  • Water
  • Sugar
  • Milk or milk alternative
  • Ice
  • Whisk
  • Spoon
  • Tall cup

Directions:

Spoon two tablespoons of instant coffee and two tablespoons of sugar in a tall cup. Next add two tablespoons of warm water to the cup. Take a whisk and start beating the mixture until it’s frothy.

Whipping methods: take a tall whisk and spin in hands, transfer into a bowl and whisk or use an electric mixer. The whipped mixture should be done when it is a light brown color and creates soft peaks.

Fill a tall glass with ice 2/3 full. Add milk to the glass, leaving two to three inches of room. To make a mocha add chocolate syrup or powder. Spoon the whipped mixture on top of the milk.

After taking aesthetically pleasing photos, stir in the whipped mixture and enjoy.
