Bachelor Breakdown: singing reality television

"Listen to Your Heart" is better than the previews show

At the end of the last “The Bachelor” finale I was reminded of the new show in the Bachelor franchise called “Listen to Your Heart.” I just stared at the television and said “I’m not watching that. That show looks so stupid.”

Yet here I was Monday evening turning on the television to watch the premiere of “Listen to Your Heart.” I was pleasantly surprised with how great the content was.

Originally I just thought ‘oh it’s going to be another American Idol, the people on it don’t really care for love’. But in the first episode it seemed like they did care.

Couples got together really quickly and having them all stay in this mansion was entertaining to watch. But this week the women had the roses. They held the power so the men had to make the moves.

Various people caught my eye on the premiere. It seemed the show solely focused on Jamie. Jamie is a pop country singer who is very beautiful. All the guys were like magnets to her from the very beginning. She ended up in a love triangle with Ryan and Trevor. They both were crazy for her and this affected her heart heavily. She said she has been cheated on by every man she has been with, so she didn’t want to make the wrong decision.

She definitely got attached to both of the guys, even after her date with Ryan. Jamie and Ryan’s date was the first date on the show and they ended up singing “Gravity” by John Mayer together in a studio.

That’s so awkward! You just met this person and now you’re going to go sing with them? This was kind of strange to me. I understand it’s about the music, but this just makes me think it’s all about the singing career. Then there was Trevor, the other man fighting for Jamie. He sang her a song and she was hooked. This seemed to be a trend in the first episode. Want a girl? Just sing her a song.

Another singer, Sheridan had his eyes on one woman only and that was Julia. Guys swarmed around her to get a rose and Sheridan took her away to sing her and song and so she fell for him.

But there is one couple on the episode that no song could fix, and that was Rudi and Matt. They were attached at the hip when they laid eyes on each other. But when Rudi decided not to kiss Matt in the hot tub, he decided to look at other options. This pissed Rudi off and not only that, Matt took a different woman on the date later in the episode.

Rudi was boiling mad and she straight up yelled at Matt afterwards. His date didn’t work out so he ran back to her to try to pick up the pieces, but she wouldn’t have it.

She yelled and yelled — not letting him speak.  Like girl, you’re savage! You don’t need a man to walk over you and crush your heart. But also, it is the first night and there are fourteen guys, how hard is it to go pick another one and move in?

Honestly, the rest of the contestants were hard to keep track of. Hopefully next week I will get a better hang of who they all are.

At the end of the rose ceremony Jamie picked Trevor. From the previews it looks like something comes up later on between them and I frankly don’t trust the man. I feel like he is somehow going to break her heart. Sheridan ended up with Julia. No surprise there. And then a different woman picked Matt and Rudi picked Ryan. Interesting toss up I suppose? This should lead into some intense drama next week.

Until then, listen to your heart Bachelor Nation.
