Idaho high school seniors and spring sport athletes felt the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Seniors lost their chance to walk for graduation, and spring sport athletes lost their chance to compete. In response to the loss of experience, a campaign was created throughout the state of Idaho to honor the class of 2020.
The campaign, #BeTheLightID, started on social media and has spread to many high schools. High schools around Idaho will turn on their stadium lights Friday night to honor the 2020 graduating class and spring sport athletes.
Moscow High School along with other high schools will turn on their lights at 8:20 p.m. (20:20 military time) to honor the graduating class of 2020, families, coaches and spring sport athletes.
In Moscow, the lights at Bear Field will be turned on for 20 minutes according to the Moscow Bears Boosters Facebook page
Families in Moscow will be able to drive by Bear Field in their cars and honk to show support. For those who choose to walk, they must maintain a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended social distance to increase the safety of participants.
Schools are asking participants who to take pictures to share them on social media along with the hashtag, #BeTheLightID.
“The lights are a beacon to show we are thinking of them and to remind them there will be a time where we will be all together again,” Moscow Bear Boosters said on their Facebook page.
Schools requested that participants do not enter fields to ensure social distancing is maintained.
