Makeshift drink Monday

A weekly series of DIY drinks to try

Emily Pearce | Argonaut

Every Monday, we will be sharing different drinks to try. This week: the London Fog.

London Fog

A refreshing and caffeinated drink perfect for relaxing or finishing daily tasks. This drink has a medium flavor that is customizable depending on cream and sweetness preference. With a mildly sweet flavor, this drink can be enjoyed at any time of day.

Tea is one of the only plants that provides caffeine and theanine naturally. These two work together to energize and also tell the brain to stay calm according to National Center of Biotechnological Information (NCBI).

What you’ll need

  • Black tea
  • Water
  • Sweetener of your choice
  • Milk of your choice
  • A spoon
  • A mug

Optional

  • Milk frother
  • Electric kettle

Start by boiling two cups of water in an electric kettle, over the stove or in the microwave. Bring to a shallow boil and pour into a heat safe mug. If heating in a microwave, heat in for two minutes.

Put the black tea bag in the hot water and let it steep for three to five minutes. Do not take the tea bag out after steeping.

Add in a sweetener of choice and stir with a spoon until dissolved. Add a couple tablespoons of milk of your choice.

Sip and enjoy!

Tips:

  • Don’t let the water come to a rolling boil, this will burn the tea and make it bitter.
  • Start with a little milk and add more to taste, a little goes a long way.
  • Find a cozy spot and drink mindfully.
