Sports cancellations continue amid health epidemic

The Big Sky Conference announced today they are suspending spring sports until further notice.

“The Big Sky Presidents’ Council made this decision on Thursday with the health and well-being of its student-athletes in mind,” a Big Sky press release said.

The conference said they will continue to monitor the situation and health of the students and will review the situation at a later, undisclosed date.

The Big Sky Conference has been canceled for the remainder of the 2020 Basketball Championships due to the coronavirus outbreak, according to the NCAA.

The men’s quarterfinals game scheduled for today will also be canceled, according to a press release from the Big Sky Conference.

The press release also stated, The Big Sky and CenturyLink Arena will announce a refund policy soon, and contact fans who purchased tickets know.

The decision was made by the Big Sky Presidents’ Council, who voted Thursday morning.

“This decision was not made lightly, as we know how meaningful our basketball championships is to our student-athletes, coaches, alumni, and fans,” Commissioner Tom Wistrcill said in the press release. “After consulting with medical experts, local authorities and the leadership of our institutions, we feel that this decision is prudent given the health and well-being of all involved.”

According to the NCAA, a number of NCCA conferences have been cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak including: AAC, ACC, America East, Atlantic 10, Big 12, Big Ten, Big West, CAA (women’s only, men’s previously completed), Conference USA, Ivy League, MAC, Pac-12, SEC, Sunbelt, SWAC and WAC.
