Across the country currently and in the next few months, cat videos are being shown in theaters in order to raise money for charity.

This annual event is held with the intended goal of raising money for cats nationally. According to the CatVideoFest website, “CatVideoFest is a joyous communal experience only available in theaters and raises money for cats in need through partnerships with local cat charities, animal welfare organizations and shelters to best serve cats in the area.”

At every venue a percentage of the proceeds go to local animal shelters and animal welfare organizations. This year in Moscow, the Humane Society of the Palouse is partnering with the Kenworthy Performing Arts Center for CatVideoFest. Jamie Hill, operations director of the Kenworthy, approached Tara Wimer, executive director of the Humane Society, with the idea of partnering with them this year.

They have partnered together in the past for another cat centered fundraiser, where they showed the documentary “Kedi”. This fundraiser also raised money for charities that benefit animals.

“We are excited to partner with the Kenworthy again, because last time we all had a blast celebrating cats and raising funds together,” Wimer said.

Wimer said they received $96 in ticket sales and $128 in donations during that fundraiser. She said that she is excited to partner with them again and raise money for a great cause.

At the fundraiser there will be an adoptable kitten in the main lobby as well as cat related goodies available for donation.

“(It’s) a casual and fun experience with the combination of a hilarious movie celebrating our feline friends inside the lovely Kenworthy and a feline adoption event showcasing and raising funds for cats in need,” Wimer said.

There will be three showings on March 6, 7 and 8, all at 7 p.m.
