During this time of year companies are going all out with Valentine’s Day specials for couples, so one brewery in particular decided to hold a unique event in response.

Hunga Dunga Brewing Company hosted for the first time an Anti-Valentine’s Day Event. The event was meant to cater to those who don’t have a significant other, or who are just sick of the traditions that go along with this holiday.

“Valentine’s Day feels a little bit exclusive in terms of going out to eat,” Graham Lily, owner of Hunga Dunga, said. “With all the wonderful food and tasting menus that are happening in the community, we wanted to do something that maybe didn’t need to be quite as exclusive. You don’t necessarily have to have a significant other to enjoy Valentine’s Day, you can come out, in a group, with friends or by yourself and still enjoy yourself.”

Sam Reed, one of the waitresses at Hunga Dunga, said they came up with the idea with a fellow co-worker a couple of months ago.

“Everyone else is doing some big fancy things,” Reed said. “So, we thought it’d be fun to bring everybody, couples, singles, friends, anybody who wanted to come in, and make them feel more included.”

Lily and Reed said the event was a success for Hunga Dunga. Although, they did not say if this is going to be an annual event.

“I think it’s an interesting idea,” Jonathan Gradin, one of the attendants of the event, said. “(It was) kind of a counter to the normal nothing going on for singles or otherwise uninvolved people, or stuff catering just to couples.”
