UPDATE: UI TLC flooded with 18 inches of water, closed Friday and into weekend

All activities in the building, including classes, have been cancelled for the remainder of the day.

Students and faculty gather outside the Teaching and Learning Center Friday morning after being evacuated.

The Teaching and Learning Center flooded with approximately 18 inches of water Friday morning, leading to a building evacuation and full building closure for the remainder of Friday and into the weekend.

All work and classes in the TLC have been cancelled and activities in the building and ISUB will be relocated. Relocations for scheduled events and activities are still in progress, and event location updates can be found at https://www.uidaho.edu/news/isub-updates.

There are escorts available for faculty and staff to retrieve items from the building near the Copy and Print Center.

Moscow Fire Department was dispatched around 9:45 a.m. Friday to the scene after flooding triggered the emergency alarm system. There is no safety threat or other buildings on campus impacted, UI Director of Communications Jodi Walker said.

The building will need replacement pieces for the front pumps, used to pump out liquid in places like a basement, and for the transformer that got wet, Walker said. There is no timeline for when those replacements will be completed.

There is currently no information on what triggered the building flooding, Walker said.

A Vandal Alert was sent out around 10:50 a.m. to alert students who were planning on classes or activities in the building later in the day who were not previously aware of the closure, Walker said.

The TLC and ISUB building closure alert was not the first Vandal Alert sent out to campus Nov. 1. An alert was sent early Friday morning to alert campus of building closure of Menard Law Building due to a power outage. This closure also cancelled all classes, work and scheduled activities.

The Argonaut will continue to cover this story as more information becomes available.
