Moscow Community Calendar: politics, performances and Halloween cheer

Get ready for some spooktacular events this week

8:30 p.m. Wednesday | Cereal and Board Games with ASUI
The Hub, Wallace Residence Center
Students are invited to play games and eat cereal while meeting with ASUI representatives. The event is hosted by Vandal Entertainment, the Residence Hall Association and Associated Students University of Idaho.

7 p.m. Thursday | F-Word Live! Poetry Slam
Vandal Ballroom, Bruce M. Pitman Center
The Women’s Center will host a poetry slam Thursday, Oct. 24, to “showcase relationships to and perspectives of feminism, gender equality, and patriarchy through spoken word,” the Women’s Center website stated. Tickets are free for U of I and WSU students with student ID and $5 for non-students. The Women’s Center stated proceeds will benefit violence prevention.

2 p.m. Friday | Farewell Party for Bekah MillerMacPhee
Women’s Center, Memorial Gym room 109
The Women’s Center staff invites the U of I community to join them as they thank Bekah MillerMacPhee for her years of work with the Women’s Center. Refreshments will be available.

5 p.m. Saturday | Africa Night
International Ballroom, Bruce M. Pitman Center
The African Student Association will host their annual Africa Night Saturday. The event will feature a talent showcase, dancing, cultural performances and authentic African food. Tickets are $10 at tabling events, the Office of Multicultural Affairs or at the door and $13 online. Children are admitted for free.

2 p.m. Sunday | Howl-O-Ween 2019
Latah County Fair and Event Center, 1021 Harold Street
Moscow Alehouse and the Humane Society of the Palouse will host a dog Halloween party Sunday to raise money for the humane society’s Merlin Fund, which allows the society to provide surgeries for animals in need. Entry is $15 for adults, but children 12 and under are free. For more information and the schedule of events, visit the Moscow Chamber of Commerce event page.

4 p.m. Monday | Mental Health First Aid for Students: Part 1
Student Recreation Center room
Counseling and Testing Center will host a certification program for students to understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance abuse. The CTC also provides training for faculty and staff. For more information and to register, visit the CTC website.

5 p.m. Tuesday | Moscow City Council Candidate Forum
Renfrew Hall room 125
The departments of Sociology & Anthropology and Politics & Philosophy will host a forum for students, staff, faculty and community members Tuesday evening. Attendees will have the opportunity to listen to city council candidates discuss their vision of Moscow’s future. Questions can be submitted by emailing [email protected]

6:30 p.m. Wednesday | Spooky Science Show
Renfrew Hall room 112
The College of Science Ambassadors will host a spooky science show for the community. All ages are welcome at the event.

7 p.m. Thursday | Escape the ISUB
Summit room, Idaho Student Union Building
Vandal Entertainment and Puzzle IQ will host several escape rooms in the ISUB. Multiple rooms, each with a different theme, will be set up throughout the ISUB and the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society will host a trivia game while attendees wait for escape rooms to open.
