Important events in Moscow this week

Monday 4 p.m. | Borah Symposium Plenary Address
International Ballroom, Bruce M. Pitman Center

The Borah Symposium begins with a plenary address titled “Climate and Conflict.” Sherri Goodman, a senior strategist at the Center for Climate and Security, will present the address. This year is the first time in the symposium’s history that every presenter is female. Future events throughout the symposium are posted on the University of Idaho events page.

Tuesday 12:30 p.m. | The Graying of Consumer Bankruptcy; Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology Colloquium Series
Teaching and Learning Center 045

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology will host this colloquium series highlighting research within its department. Debb Thorne, an associate professor at UI, will present a lecture titled “The Graying of Consumer Bankruptcy: Older Americans More Likely to File.” Check the UI event page for future events.

Wednesday 5:30 p.m. | Heartbeat of the Community: Moscow Farmers Market Economic Impact
333 N. Jackson Street, Moscow

Colette DePhelps, community food systems educator for University of Idaho Extension, and Steve Peterson, associate clinical professor at University of Idaho, will present this lecture. DePhelps and Peterson will discuss how the Moscow Farmers Market impacts the economic health of Moscow and Latah County.

Thursday 3:30 p.m. | China on the Palouse: “The Unity of Man with Heaven and Earth in Chinese Philosophy: Representation and Modeling”
Teaching and Learning Center 122

Dong Luo, assistant professor at South China University of Technology, will present his recent research at this event. Luo is a visiting professor in University of Idaho’s Department of Politics and Philosophy this fall, the University of Idaho events page stated.

Friday 4 p.m. | Third Party Pressure for Peace
Teaching and Learning Center 023

Anna Pechenkina, assistant professor at Utah State University, will deliver this lecture, the University of Idaho event page stated. She will explain studies that examine how pressure affects peace.

Saturday 9 a.m. | Cops and Robbers Fun Run
Ghormley Park
$25 per person plus 6% sales tax

Community members are invited to dress in a cop or robber costume and join Moscow police offers in a 5k or 10k run, the Moscow Chamber of Commerce website stated. The run takes participants along Chipman Trail and back, ending in Ghormley Park with a chance to enjoy food, drinks and conversation with police officers. All proceeds go towards the Moscow Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Sunday 5:30 p.m. | Homecoming Kick Off
International Ballroom, Bruce M. Pitman Center

This event, hosted by the University of Idaho Homecoming Committee, will announce the seniors running for Homecoming royalty spots. The first event of the week, the Glow in the Dark Photo Scavenger Hunt, will begin shortly after Kick Off. Each team will be tested in their knowledge of campus, Homecoming traditions and the University of Idaho, the homecoming website stated.

Monday 10 a.m. | English as a New Language Conversation Hour
Brink Room, Moscow Public Library

This weekly event aims to help English as a New Language (ENL) learners practice and improve their English language skills. The Moscow Chamber of Commerce website stated Louise Davison, a certified ENL/EFL teacher, and Charlene Krumpe host the informal sessions.
