BREAKING: Idaho men’s basketball head coach placed on administrative leave

Don Verlin

Idaho men’s basketball head coach Don Verlin was placed on paid administrative leave May 23 following a notification of three possible NCAA bylaw violations.

University of Idaho athletic department spokesperson Mike Walsh confirmed the leave to The Argonaut Tuesday, and said it was a decision made in collaboration with the athletic department and university administration.

There is no definite timeline on the leave, Walsh said.

A consultant firm, Ice Miller, submitted the report to the university detailing the potential violations May 22 and the university self-reported the potential violations to the NCAA, as originally reported by the Spokesman-Review.

Walsh said both outgoing UI President Chuck Staben and incoming President Scott Green have been involved in Verlin’s change in employment status.

“They have both been consulted and they are both working together on this matter as well as other members of university administration and athletics administration,” Walsh said.

The Argonaut will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
