Vandals take 15th at Redhawk Invitational

Idaho played Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place Washington taking 15th place overall at the Redhawk Invitational.

The first day of the tournament, teams played two rounds on the par 71 golf course.

Idaho were led by freshman Colt Sherrell carding an impressive 4-under 67 in the first round and a 1-under 70 during the second. This secured Sherrell a tie for tenth place individually.

Sophomore Travis Hansen was close behind him shooting a 1-under 70 in the first and even par for the second.

Junior Sean Langham struggled a bit in the first round shooting a 3-over 74 but came back in the second to hit a 3-under 68 making him even for the first day of play.

The last scoring Vandal, Freshman Joseph Glenn shot a 3-over 74 in the first, and a 5-over 76 in the second.

Idaho ended the first day and two rounds tied in 12th place, with a 1-under 567 (282-285) overall just one stroke behind the tie for 10th.

The final round was a bit of an oddity for Idaho Men’s Golf.

Hansen led the team with an even 71 keeping him at 1 under for the tournament, while every other golfer on the team hit a 3-over 74.

Sherrell was the lowest scoring Vandal at 2-under and was just out of reach from the top 25 tying for 26th individually.

The fifth golfer for Idaho, Freshman Joel Veenstra, had a good first round hitting an even par, but struggled in the second carding an 11-over 82. He finished out strong with a 3-over 74 like his teammates Glenn, Langham and Sherrell.

“Everybody who played for the Vandals feels like they left three to four shots out there,” said David Nuhn, head coach in a press statement. “Today, collectively, we just weren’t as sharp as we needed to be with our execution.”

Idaho finished in 15th place overall with an 8-over 860 (282-285-293). The Vandals were just 8 strokes off the three way tie for 10th.

The men will be swinging again April 12 through 14 in the El Macero Classic, the last tournament for them before the Big Sky Championships.
