Vandals finish in 11th at Bryan National Collegiate

The Vandals Women’s Golf Team finished in 11th place at the Bryan National Collegiate in Browns Summit, North Carolina.

The Vandals had two players in the top 25 through the first round.

Sophomore Valeria Patino led Idaho, shooting an even par which left her in a tie for 13th individually.

Senior Sophie Hausmann was right behind her carding a 1-over 73 leaving her in a tie for 16th place individually.

Freshman Vicky Tsai shot a 6-over 78 and she was followed by senior Michelle Kim who carded a 10-over 82.

Idaho sat tied for 12th place overall after the first round just 2 strokes behind the tie for 10th between East Carolina and UNCG.

“This golf course is a fun challenge,” head coach Lisa Johnson said in a news release.

Hausmann swept off the day before shooting a 4-under 68 in the second round which brought her into a tie for 4th place individually.

Kim rebounded strongly from her 10-over in the previous round to a 2-over 74 in the second.

Patino followed closely behind her carding a 3-over 75.

The fifth golfer freshman Eddie Hsu came back from an 11-over 83 to a 5-over 77 tying with Tsai to take the fourth score for the Vandals.

“I’m especially proud of the team for rebounding from yesterday,” Johnson said. “They kept the belief that we can score on this challenging course and proved it today.”

Idaho overtook UNCG and sat in 10th place overall just one stroke behind East Carolina after round two.

Hausmann led again during the third shooting an even par. She ended up placing in the top 10 with a 3-under 213(73-68-72) leaving her in sixth place individually.

Kim improved again and followed closely behind her carding a 1-over 73.

Patino carded a 5-over 77 followed by Tsai with a 10-over 82 to finish out the third round.

Idaho finished in 11th place overall at the Bryan National Collegiate tournament.

The Vandals will now prepare for their last tournament of the season, the Big Sky Championships on April 19 through 21 in Boulder City, Nevada.
