Former Vandals find new opportunities in the AAF

Two former Idaho football stars made their debuts in the inaugural season of the Alliance of American Football.

Former Idaho quarterback Matt Linehan and former Idaho punter Austin Rehkow made the final 52-man roster for the Salt Lake Stallions and made their debuts Feb. 10 against the Arizona Hotshots.

Rehkow enters the season as the Stallions only punter, while Linehan is one of the three quarterbacks on the roster along with Josh Woodrum and Austin Allen.

The Idaho connections continue to run within the AAF, with Linehan and Rehkow playing under former Vandal head coach Dennis Erickson.

Linehan found his minutes during the beginning of the second half against Arizona when Woodrum went down with an injury to start the second half, leaving Linehan to go in and earn some playing time.

The Stallions fell 38-22, but was able to find the end zone to get his first touchdown in the AAF.

The eight-team league was created by co-founders Charlie Ebersol and Bill Polian to be alongside the NFL during the offseason months and help grow developing talent.

The AAF holds a 12-week season with 10 regular season games and two weeks for playoffs with the AAF Championship being held late April in Las Vegas.

The former Vandal greats will be eying an opportunity to bring home an AAF championship in its inaugural season.
