We must fix what is broken

Ocean levels are rising faster than ever

Climate change is real. Scientifically, we have known that for a while.

However, these changes are happening quicker than we ever thought possible.

A recent New York Times notes that oceans are heating up 40 percent faster on average than a United Nations panel estimated five years ago. The researchers also concluded ocean temperatures have broken records for several straight years.

Even with all this information, the human race has pretended for years that it isn’t existing right under our noses.

When the president won’t take the proper steps to combat climate change, how can we expect the rest of the country to protect the planet?

According to CNN Politics, Trump tweeted, “The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive” just over eight years ago.

In November he fully dismissed a scientific study on climate change. It’s difficult for society to take action on an important issue when our president isn’t and hasn’t taken action himself.

There is no knowing if we could have reversed these issues years ago. But, with care, we might have been able to mitigate these problems.

Unfortunately, our planet suffers the most when the people we look to the most disregard the validity of science.

Thanks to this ignorance, our oceans are suffering a slow death.

The earth’s oceans matter. They affect our food intake.

Every animal has a place in the ecosystem and if the oceans die, I am afraid the world will suffer terrible effects that humans can’t even imagine.

When oceans suffer, the planet suffers. Humans will suffer.

It’s not just oceans. Land, ice caps and the air we all breathe all suffer the consequences of our lack of care

We must take action. It all starts with the oceans with saving these bodies of water.

Oceans are the main source for scientists to track climate change, according to the New York Times.

If humans don’t take care of our oceans, we are essentially living in the dark about the problem. We aren’t addressing the problem and it seems like humans don’t care about it one bit.

People won’t even have a guess as to what climate change will do next or it’s detrimental effects.

A report by the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change published in October, said examples of action to fix climate change is to shift to zero-emission power, changing food systems and electrifying transport.

It may take an army to fix the issues, but one person can make a small difference but we need come together as a community and a country to get the task done.

Be a part of the change. Stop climate change now.
