Election results: statewide races

Unofficial election results from the Idaho Secretary of State’s office show GOP front-runners sweeping many statewide races.

Lt. Gov. Brad Little, a Republican, won the gubernatorial race on a nearly 10 point margin, picking up 59.8 percent of the vote to Democratic challenger and former state lawmaker Paulette Jordan’s 38.2 percent of the vote. One hundred percent of precincts are included in these unofficial results.

In the race for Lt. Gov., Janice McGeachin won on wide margins over Kristin Collum, picking up 59.7 percent of the vote to Collum’s 40.3 percent.

Sherri Ybarra, a GOP incumbent, retained her seat as superintendent of public instruction over Democratic challenger Cindy Wilson by picking up 51.4 percent of the vote.

Lawerence Denney, a Republican, won his bid for re-election, picking up 62.5 percent of the vote to Democratic challenger Jill Humble’s 37.5 percent. Lawrence Wasden won the race for attorney general as well, picking up 65.4 percent of the vote to Democratic challenger Bruce Bistline’s 34.6 percent.

Russ Fulcher secured his seat in Idaho’s first Congressional District by picking up 62.7 percent of the vote, compared to Democratic hopeful’s Christine McNeil’s 30.8 percent.
U.S. Rep. Mike Simpson won his bid for re-elction in Idaho’s second Congressional district with 60.7 percent of the vote.

Proposition 1, to legalize historical horse racing machines, has 53.8 percent “no votes,” failing the initiative.

Proposition 2, to expand Medicaid to a broader range of low-income individuals, received 60.6 percent “yes” votes.
