Vandal Health Education and Campus Recreation will host their 30th annual Health and Recreation fair from 12 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 17 at the Student Recreation Center.
The fair is open to all University of Idaho students, faculty and staff. Over 50 vendors will be present, with chili available to all visitors as well as a variety of free resources.
“The focus of the fair is connecting students to campus and community health and recreation wellness and resources,” said Emily Tuschoff, Director of Health Promotion.
Free flu shots will be available to students with their VandalCard. Meningitis vaccines are available as well, but supplies are limited.
Ergonomic education will be offered through UI Environmental Health and Safety, with a focus on worksite safety. There will be different sitting and standing stations available to help all employees recognize and correct unsafe working conditions, for both staff members and student employees.
The fair will also offer a variety of different screenings including mental health, vision and alcohol and marijuana screenings. There will also be nutrition tips and diabetes education offered through Gritman Medical Center.
Complimentary chair massages and free wellness classes will also be offered through the fair, with a variety of different options available to de-stress. There will be a therapy dog in the Well space.
Off campus vendors such as Kula Yoga and Tea and Sam’s Apothecary will be at the fair as well. Sam’s will be offering reiki, a healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into patients through the natural healing processes of the patient’s body and restore physical and emotional well-being.
Students can also enter to win a bike donated through ASUI by completing a passport by visiting 13 different vendors in addition to the Outdoors Program and the Well Space.
UI Sustainability Center is offering a bike workshop at the event. Pre-registration is required.
The fair is put on by Vandal Health Education and UI Campus Recreation Center in partnership with Gritman Medical Center and Delta Dental.
