Big Sky Power rankings: Week 7

Eastern Washington (+3)

The Eagles have emerged as the best team in the Big Sky, with an offense that refuses to slow down. Their third place spot in the FCS Coaches’ Poll was well-deserved, as Cheney patiently waits for a Big Sky crown.

UC Davis (-1)

Ranking 19th in the FCS, the Aggies dropped 49 on a miserable Northern Colorado. A matchup with Idaho State will be sure to push the scoreboard limits.

Idaho State (+2)

The Bengals, surprised, surprised and then surprised again. With their lone loss against Cal, Idaho State has shot to the to high ranks of the Big Sky, earning a 27th rank in the FCS. With a trip to UC Davis scheduled for next week, it will be time for quarterback Tanner Gueller and the Bengals to prove their worth.

Weber State

As Idaho State and Eastern Washington built off an already successful season, the Weber State Wildcats fell flat against Northern Arizona. Mid-season is the time for teams to figure out where they stand, and time might be running out for the Wildcats.

Montana (-3)

Speaking of falling flat, Montana earned a title no one thought possible: Portland State’s first Division 1 victory since 2016. The loss should be a slap in the face for the Grizzlies, and might serve as a wakeup call.

Northern Arizona (+3)

The Lumberjacks catapulted for bottom-to-middle Big Sky team to a serious contender after beating Weber State. The Wildcats, ranked 13th in the FCS, looked unprepared for Northern Arizona, leading to a narrow yet swift defeat.

Montana State (+1)

“Figuring it out” is the best way to describe this year’s Montana State team. The Bobcats sit at 3-2 but have yet to maintain any kind of momentum. Luckily, a home game against Idaho is up next.

Idaho (-2)

While other Big Sky teams seem to be finding their footing, Idaho is rapidly losing it. A demoralizing loss to Idaho State seemed to shock the Vandal community into a new, grim realization. Idaho is simply not a Big Sky contender this year.

Cal Poly (+3)

The Mustangs earned a much-needed win on Saturday, blowing by Sacramento State 41-27. Cal Poly will need every second of its bye week to prepare for UC Davis.

Portland State (+3)

Saved from the Big Sky basement, Portland State finally earned a D1 win. Better yet, it did it against one of the best teams in the conference. With Northern Colorado up next, the Vikings might just have enough to scrape together two consecutive victories.

Sacramento State (-4)

The Hornets have come crashing down after a season of trying to stay airborne in conference play. A huge defeat at the hands of Cal Poly does not bode will for the future.

Southern Utah (-2)

The Thunderbirds were lucky to score 17 on Eastern Washington and will be lucky to record a single win in 2018.

Northern Colorado (-2)

With the most losses of any Big Sky team (six), Northern Colorado needs to keep its head up. Portland State beat the Grizzlies last week, but might still be gassed come Saturday. One can only hope.
