Soccer: Vandals to take on Bears

Sophomore midfielder Taylor Brust heads the ball against Grambling State University Friday in the Kibbie Dome.

After starting conference play with a 2-0 record, the Vandals now have their eyes set on Northern Colorado as the Big Sky season continues.

Idaho is entering Friday’s matchup coming off wins against Portland State and Sacramento State. This is the fifth time is program history that the team has won its first two conference games and the first time that they have done it with two shutouts.

Idaho was also able to net six goals on the offensive end of the pitch.

Senior forward Bridget Daley and senior goalkeeper Makayla Presgrave both won player of the week awards for their play in the opening week of conference play. Daley was named Offensive Player of the Week thanks in part to her hat-trick against Portland State, the second time she has earned the accolade in her career. Presgrave grabbed Defensive Player of the Week for her two shutouts and five saves. This is the first time she has won the award.

Northern Colorado has a record of 5-5 and are 1-0 in the Big Sky after their double overtime win in Missoula against University of Montana. The Bears have the top-two goal scorers in the Big Sky this season — both Mariel Gutierrez and Maddie Roberts have four goals apiece.

The last time the two programs faced off was last season in Greeley, Colorado, where the Bears scored the game’s only goal in the 43rd minute to get the 1-0 lead.

Idaho plays Northern Colorado at 6 p.m. Friday (Sept. 28) in Greeley, Colorado.
