Track and Field: California Cruising

Idaho track and field traveled south for a successful weekend at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla, California.

A number of Idaho athletes finished with personal-bests and improved Big Sky standings.

Sophomore Austin Beyer closed the weekend with Idaho’s top performance after a personal-best throw of 60.55 in the javelin to take third amongst Division I athletes. His performance moved him into fourth place in the Big Sky standings.

Sophomore Jonny Magee finished with two top-five titles in the long jump and the triple jump. Magee took fourth in the long jump invitational with a leap of 6.74 meters and fifth in the triple jump invitational with a leap of 14.51 meters.

Pole vaulters sophomore Chloe Woest and junior Cecilia Watkins had strong performances in their event. Woest claimed fifth at 3.50 meters while Watkins was close behind in seventh at 3.35 meters.

Sophomore Jordyn Rauer improved her Big Sky standings and personal-record with a 11.94 jump in the triple jump.

Freshman Hannah Ringel grabbed a 10th place finish in the shot put with a throw of 13.21 for a new personal-best and Big Sky ranking improvement.

Several Vandals finished with top-performances in the distance races. Junior Andrea Condie took fourth in the 1500-meter race with a personal-best time of 4:31.84. Sophomore Krista Story was not far behind with a fifth-place finish with a 4:32.36.

Freshman Caleb Seely took fourth-place overall in the men’s 1500-meter race with a time of 3:54.78, fifth place among Division I athletes.

Junior Austin Fred moved into the top-10 in Big Sky standings in the 3000-meter steeplechase after a 9:30.43 fourth-place finish.
