Greek houses self-impose suspension

Greek housing student leadership has instituted a self-imposed suspension of all alcohol-related activities, According to a University of Idaho news release. This suspension will continue until specific criteria set by Student Affairs and Greek leaders are met.

The criteria and duration of the suspension is not known at this time. The suspension, according to the news release, is a reaction to national occurrences in Greek housing and not due to a singular instance at UI.

“For our students to step up and take this on themselves, proactively, is proof of leadership in our student body,” UI President Chuck Staben said in the press release.

This decision was made by the governing bodies of the UI greek houses: the Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council and the Multicultural Greek Council. The 34 Greek houses on the UI campus, consisting of approximately 20 percent of the UI student population, will adhere to this suspension.
