News Brief — Outdoor Program to host Outdoor Sale and Swap Thursday

The University of Idaho Outdoor Program will host the 43rd annual Outdoor Equipment Sale and Swap 6 p.m. Thursday in the Multi-Activity Court in the Student Recreation Center.

“(The event) is just a place for people to come generally once a year and barter with goods they might not use anymore, and try and find treasures that other people might be selling, specifically for outdoor equipment,” said Sandra Townsend, outdoor program coordinator for the UI Outdoor Rental Center.

Students can find a wide variety of outdoor equipment, including skis, bikes, rafts, winter clothing, backpacks, boots and water battles.

“We literally see everything,” Townsend said.

The event is free and open to the public, and anyone wanting to sell equipment will pay $5 at the door.

“People who want to sell can come a little earlier, there has been a lot of interest this year and all of our tables are first come, first served,” Townsend said. “Any time from 5:30 to 6 works pretty well.”

For students who might not be interested in buying and selling, there are other reasons to come to the event.

“We have local vendors in the area that are coming, but we also have many of the local ski-resorts that come,” Townsend said. “People who just want to get information about local winter recreational opportunities, this is a great place to go also, even if they aren’t interested in buying or selling gear.”

“This is one of the few events where all of the outdoor community comes together,” Townsend said.
