The Idaho women’s golf team finished the San Diego State March Mayhem tournament with a win in the 13th place bracket.
In match play, players for each team faceoff in head-to-head competition with every hole accounting for a point. At the end of the round, the player who wins the most holes will provide their team with a single-point. All square means the round ended in a tie.
If two opponents are all square after the round, each team is awarded a half-point.
Round one featured Brigham Young University and Idaho.
Idaho freshman Danika Palm competed well in round one. She finished all square and awarded Idaho with its first half-point.
The Vandals claimed only one full-point in round one. Senior Amy Hasenoehrl took down her opponent. She hung to a one-point lead at the end of round one, but the Vandals still dropped the round 3.5-1.5.
In round two, Idaho faced New Mexico in the 9th place bracket.
Freshman Clara Moyano claimed a two-point victory over her opponent, but it was the lone Idaho point of round two. The Vandals dropped round two with a score of 4.0-1.0, but Idaho still competed until the very end.
Idaho sophomore Michelle Kim did not lose her match without a fight. Her match-up went down to the wire, but at the end of round two, her opponent clung to a one-point victory.
Palm was resilient in round two, although it was also in losing effort. Palm and her opponent competed to the end of the round. Similar to Kim, Palm lost her match by one point.
Round three had the Vandals competing in the 13th place bracket. Idaho took on San Francisco.
Sophomore Sophie Hausmann recorded one of Idaho’s round three points. At the end of the round, Hausmann solidified her match victory by one point.
Hasenoehrl’s round three turned out to be a closely contested match. After the round, she and her opponent were all square.
Moyano put together an impressive round three. She was defeated her opponent by five points with only three holes left.
After Palm dropped her match, Idaho and New Mexico were tied 2.5-2.5.
Still firmly in the 13th place bracket, Idaho and Iowa competed in round four.
Idaho’s performance was exceptional for round four. Hausmann and Hasenoehrl both defeated their competition by four points with two holes left.
Kim added an impressive effort, too. She defeated her opponent three points with two holes left.
Palm finished round four all square, and Idaho concluded its final match with a promising victory of 3.5-0.5.
Idaho will return to action on April 3 and April 4 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The team will compete in the Hawkeye-El Tigre Invitational.
