Individual players from the Idaho women’s soccer team have earned recognition for a season well done.
Freshman midfielder Emma Eddy was named Newcomer of the Year. She shares the title in a three-way tie with Sacramento State midfielder Mikayla Reed and Weber State forward Paige Stevens.
In conference play, Eddy scored eight goals in 10 games. She sits second in the Big Sky in scoring. Eastern Washington’s Offensive Player of the Year Chloe Williams is in first.
Eddy finished the regular season as one of Idaho’s top scorers, with 17 points on the year.
Headlining the All-Big Sky first team for the Vandals is senior forward Kavita Battan for the second year in a row.
Battan came out strong for her senior season by scoring 14 points, two of which were game winning goals.
Sophomore defender Kelly Dopke, junior defender Josilyn Daggs, senior midfielder Elexis Schlossarek and senior midfielder Clara Gomez all earned second team honors.
Junior forward Olivia Baggerly was given honorable mention for Big Sky midfielders.
A key factor in the Vandal’s repeat success season is their depth in talent. Throughout the season the team kept a balance in scoring from all players, with 12 athletes contributing points throughout conference play.
The Vandals enter the Big Sky Conference championship tournament as the No. 1 seed after taking the regular season title for the second year in a row. The first seed earns a quarterfinal bye.
Eastern Washington defeated Montana 1-0 Wednesday. Williams scored the Eagles only goal up against Big Sky Goalkeeper of the Year Kailey Norman. The goal was Williams’ 15th goal of the season.
The game marked Eastern Washingon’ first postseason win.
Eagle goalkeeper Mallory Taylor made seven saves.
As the regular season champion, Idaho typically would host the playoff game, but officials found Guy Wicks Field to be unplayable. The game, regardless of opponent, was moved to Cheney.
Idaho plays Eastern Washington 1 p.m. Friday in Cheney.
Northern Arizona advances to the semifinals after a 2-1 win over Northern Colorado.
Lumberjacks forward Adrian Nixt grabbed the first goal of the game in the second minute. Northern Colorado midfielder Sydney Schroeder leveled the score 15 minutes later. The Lumberjacks added reassurance in the 58th minute.
Northern Arizona faces No. 2 seed Sacramento State 10 a.m. Friday.
