Auburn 58 – UL Monroe 7

The Tigers used four first-half touchdowns to cruise to a commanding victory over the Warhawks in a nonconference matchup.

UL- Monroe quarterback Garrett Smith led the offense with 139 yards and a touchdown on 19-of-33 passing. Tailback Ben Luckett finished with 31 yards rushing on 11 attempts in the loss.

UL-Monroe hosts Idaho at 4 p.m. Saturday at JPS Field. The game broadcasts on ESPN3.

Appalachian State 17 – Georgia State 3

The Mountaineer defense stifled the Panthers ground game, holding Georgia State’s backfield to 88 rushing yards total in a conference victory.

Appalachian State tailback Jalin Moore carried the ball 28 times for 149 rushing yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Taylor Lamb went 13-for-25 for 143 yards and a touchdown.

Georgia State quarterback Conner Manning tallied 153 yards on 19-of-44 passing, but was intercepted four times.

Appalachian State faces UL-Lafayette 5 p.m. Oct. 12 at Cajun Field.

Georgia State hosts Texas State 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the Georgia Dome.

Texas State 48 – Incarnate Word 17

Cowboy quarterback Tyler Jones broke a single-game school record for passing yards Saturday, tallying five touchdowns and 475 yards through the air in a nonconference win against the Cardinals.

Running back Stedman Mayberry led the Texas State backfield with 69 rushing yards on 22 attempts. Freshman receiver Thurman Morbley caught six passes for 133 yards and a touchdown in the win.

The Cowboys travel to Atlanta for a 12:30 p.m. matchup Saturday with Georgia State in the Georgia Dome.

New Mexico State 37  – UL Lafayette 31 (2OT)

A missed field goal in the second overtime series came back to haunt the Ragin’ Cajuns, as the Aggies scored a touchdown on the following possession to claim a Sun Belt victory.

Quarterback Tyler Rogers led the New Mexico State offense with a 31-for-49 performance including 354 passing yards and two touchdowns. Tailback Larry Rose III tallied 112 rushing yards in the win with a 6-yard touchdown during second quarter.

UL-Lafayette quarterback Anthony Jennings threw for 143 yards on 12-of-22 passing in the loss, while running back Darius Hoggins finished with 81 yards and a touchdown on 12 rushing attempts.

The Aggies enter a bye week. The Ragin’ Cajuns face Appalachian State 5 p.m. Oct. 12 at Cajun Field.

South Alabama 42 – No. 19 San Diego State 24

The Jaguars used 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to upset the nationally-ranked Aztecs for the team’s third win of the season.

Quarterback Cole Garvin led the South Alabama offense with 242 yards and three touchdowns on 16-of-21 passing. Tight end Gerald Everett caught five passes for 103 yards and a touchdown. Running back Tyreis Thomas led the backfield with 33 rushing yards on 11 attempts.

South Alabama has a bye week before an Oct. 15 meeting with Arkansas State. Game time has not been determined.
