Miami 45 – Appalachian State 10
No. 25 Miami tallied nearly 550 yards of offense, including an 80-yard touchdown on the opening play of the game, to hand the Mountaineers a home loss.
Appalachian State junior quarterback Taylor Lamb went 10-of-21 for 115 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Sophomore tailback Jalin Moore added 89 yards in 23 attempts for the Mountaineers. Appalachian State plays Akron 12:30 p.m. Saturday on the road.
Wisconsin 23 – Georgia State 17
The Panthers held a 17-13 lead late in the fourth quarter, but consecutive scoring drives for No. 11 Wisconsin prevented the upset.
Junior quarterback Conner Manning went 20-of-29 passing for 269 yards and a touchdown, while junior tailback Kyler Neal finished as Georgia State’s leading rusher with 41 yards.
The Wisconsin defense held the Panthers rushing attack to 33 total yards.
Georgia State enters a bye week before facing Appalachian State in the team’s first conference game Oct. 1.
Kentucky 62 – New Mexico State 42
Despite forcing three turnovers and posting 500 yards of total offense, the Aggies stalled in the second half against the Wildcats.
The New Mexico State defense pushed for three turnovers, while senior quarterback Tyler Rogers went 16-of-33 for 246 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Junior tailback Xavier Hall led the Aggie defense with 94 rushing yards on 18 attempts.
New Mexico State plays Troy 4 p.m. Saturday at Larry Blakeney Field.
Georgia Southern 23 – UL Monroe 21
A blocked field goal with 1:27 left to play kept the Eagles record unblemished and handed the Warhawks a conference loss.
UL Monroe sophomore quarterback Garrett Smith went 17-of-33 from the pocket for 283 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Redshirt junior tailback L.A. Rambsy led the Georgia Southern offense with 84 yards and a touchdown on 13 attempts.
The Eagles take on Western Michigan 4 p.m. Saturday in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
UL Lafayette 28 – South Alabama 23
Senior tailback Elijah McGuire fueled the Ragin’ Cajuns offense with 165 rushing yards and senior wideout Al Riles added 135 receiving yards in the team’s first conference win of the season.
Sophomore quarterback Dallas Davis led South Alabama with 264 passing yards and two touchdowns on 21 completions. Junior tailback Xavier Johnson added 58 rushing yards in the loss.
The Jaguars will play host to Nicholls at 4 p.m. Saturday at Ladd-Peebles Stadium, while the Ragin’ Cajuns play at 5 p.m. in Tulane.
Troy 37 – Southern Miss 31
A red zone defensive stop on the final play of the game lifted the Trojans to a road victory against the team’s Conference USA opponent.
Junior quarterback Brandon Silvers went 10-of-27 for 123 yards and three touchdowns, while redshirt junior tailback Jordan Chunn added 176 yards on the ground and a rushing touchdown in the victory.
Troy takes on New Mexico State at 4 p.m. Saturday at Larry Blakeney Field.
Arkansas 42 – Texas State 3
The Razorbacks scored 35 points in the first half to hand Texas State its second loss of the season.
The lone score for the Cowboys came on a 39-yard field goal from sophomore kicker James Sherman in the third quarter.
Senior quarterback Tyler Jones went 11-of-26 for 83 yards and an interception in the loss.
Texas State plays host to No. 6 Houston at 4 p.m. Saturday at Bobcat Stadium.
Utah State 34 – Arkansas State 20
A 24-point halftime deficit proved too much for the Red Wolves to overcome. The Aggies held on for the win with several key defensive stops in the second half.
Sophomore quarterback Justice Hansen led the Red Wolves with 277 yards on 18-of-26 passing and a touchdown. Sophomore running back Warren Wand added 61 rushing yards and a touchdown. The Red Wolves seek their first win of the season against Central Arkansas 6 p.m. on Saturday at Centennial Bank Stadium.
