The Idaho women’s tennis team traveled to the desert this weekend to round out the fall season.

Nevada-Las Vegas hosted the Rebel Invite in Las Vegas, Nevada. The invitational consisted of four singles brackets and one doubles bracket.

Idaho junior Claire Yang led the Vandals as she won her singles consolation bracket. Yang placed fifth overall in the No. 4 singles draw. She lost her first match and won her next two to close out the invite.

The consolation championship featured two Vandals. Yang dominated freshman teammate Celine Koets with a 6-0, 6-2 victory.

Idaho doubles pair Belen Barcenilla and Rita Bermudez had an unlucky draw for the first round of play. The duo took on a doubles team from UNLV and lost the match to the tournament host.

Barcenilla and Bermudez finished 1-2 on the day, recording a final match win over Texas A&M.

“All the Big Sky teams we saw this fall have gotten stronger,” Idaho coach Mariana Cobra said. “We need to understand that we have to keep working hard and stay disciplined to accomplish our goal. This last tournament was very important for our team to understand how good we really are when we compete consistently.”

The Vandals will be back in action at the beginning of the new year.
